Registered acupuncturist working alongside our physios

James is a registered acupuncturist and the Clinical Director of our Milford clinic. He graduated from the New Zealand College of Chinese Medicine with a Bachelor of Health Science in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

He takes a holistic approach, looking for the root cause of injuries and symptoms, and works alongside our physiotherapy team so acupuncture can be combined with your physio treatment where that helps.

Who James helps

James has a particular interest in musculoskeletal acupuncture and in supporting people with stress-related concerns. He commonly sees people with:

• Neck, shoulder and lower back pain
• Sports injuries, including through his work with North Harbour Hockey
• Headaches and muscle tension
• Stress-related concerns such as poor sleep
• Injuries covered by ACC

James also serves on the Professional Conduct Committee of the Chinese Medicine Council of New Zealand and lectures at the New Zealand School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. He is fluent in English and Korean, and is happy to treat Korean-speaking patients in their own language.

What to expect at your first appointment

James will talk with you about your symptoms, history and lifestyle, then explain where and why he plans to place the needles before treatment begins. Needles usually stay in for 10 to 20 minutes while you relax, and he will give you advice to support your recovery between sessions.

Questions about seeing James

Do I need a referral to see James?

No. You can book directly online or by calling our Milford clinic on 09 869 6997. If your injury was caused by an accident, James can lodge your ACC claim at your first appointment.

Where does James work?

James works at our Milford clinic at 215 Shakespeare Road, which has onsite parking, plus free parking at Smales Farm through ParkMate at busy times (just give reception your car registration).

Is acupuncture with James covered by ACC?

ACC can contribute to acupuncture for an injury caused by an accident, and you pay a surcharge. Other treatment is private. See our fees page.

Does James speak Korean?

Yes. James is fluent in English and Korean.
