James is a New Zealand-trained physiotherapist at our Mairangi Bay clinic, originally from the Kapiti Coast. He has 13 years of experience in private practice and community settings.

He loves helping people stay connected to what they care about, whether that is pounding the pavement, surfing, or walking the dog after work without pain. His style is participation-led, practical and people-focused.

Running, surfing and climbing rehab

James is a keen climber himself, often heading up the coast in the camper or spending time at Auckland climbing gyms, and he has a strong interest in climbing rehab. He commonly helps with:

• Climbing injuries to the fingers, elbows and shoulders, including elbow tendon pain
• Running injuries such as shin pain, Achilles tendinopathy and ITB pain
• Surfing and paddling shoulder injuries
• Return to sport testing after injury or surgery
• Dry needling as part of treatment, where it helps

What to expect at your first appointment

James will ask about your injury, your activities and your goals, then assess how you move. You will get a clear explanation of what is going on, treatment in the same session, and an exercise plan to follow between appointments.

Do I need a referral to see James?

No. You can book directly online or by calling our Mairangi Bay clinic on 09 476 2166. If your injury was caused by an accident, James can lodge your ACC claim at your first appointment.

Where does James work?

James works at our Mairangi Bay clinic at 386 East Coast Road, which has onsite parking.

What is return to sport testing?

It is a set of strength, movement and performance checks that show whether you are ready to go back to your sport safely. James uses the results to guide the final stages of your rehab.
